Sustainability at Straitline®

We understand the importance of protecting our environment and are dedicated to improving practices within the transport textiles industry.

We acknowledge that as part of the industrial textile industry, our products are reliant on plastic.

By prioritising more eco-friendly practices, we aim to reduce our environmental footprint and lead the industry towards a more sustainable future. We’re continually seeking out improvements and opportunities to choose more sustainable options, and partnering with our industry partners and customers through our initiatives.

Side Curtain End of Life Programme

Don't let your old truck curtains end up in a landfill. We offer a re-use programme designed to give your curtain sides a second life. When you replace your truck curtains at our Palmerston North workshop, we'll upcycle and repurpose your old curtains into practical items like firewood covers, agricultural tarps, and more.

Production Waste Reduction

Straitline® has worked to reduce production waste to landfill through several initiatives:

  • Use of plotting software to reduce fabric waste
  • Using fabric scraps for patching and reinforcements wherever possible
  • All scrap aluminium and steel is sent to metal recyclers
  • Waste cardboard is sent to OJI Fibre for recycling

Recycled Plastic Corner Boards

In 2024, we launched our Straitline® Corner Boards, made from recycled plastic. Manufactured in New Zealand and designed for New Zealand pallets.

These can be ordered online, with 900mm and 420mm available.

Sustainable Materials

We’re excited to offer our customers a new innovation in fabric. Recycled PVC side curtains are a more sustainable, yet just as high-quality option that reduce waste and carbon emissions from our products.

Transport 9000 Eco Trial - NZ first Recycled PVC for Truck Curtains

We are embarking on a unique 1-2 year trial of the Transport 9000 Eco fabric, making us one of the first three companies worldwide to test this innovative material. As the first in New Zealand to adopt this, we're taking a significant step towards sustainability that will resonate with eco-conscious corporations.

Why is Transport 9000 Eco so special?

  • Sustainability: Contains a minimum of 35% recycled content.
  • Innovative Manufacturing: Base cloth made from 100% recycled PET bottles.
  • Durability: Matches the standards of our widely-used Transport 9000 Standard.
  • Environmental Impact: Estimated 14% reduction in carbon emissions compared to Transport 9000 Standard.
  • UV Resistance: Exterior coating is 100% new white PVC to maintain UV resistance.
